a website for me?

Hello friends!

I am constantly trying to design a website for myself, but this time it is really going to happen. My only real goals for it are to represent my personality and my work really well. I am pretty happy with what I have so far but thought I should ask yous opinion (people really pluralize you like that in New Zealand).

So when the website comes up it will just have my name and the links to the left. When you click on a link, the appropriate thing will come up. Then, for example, on the portfolio page you click on a number to see different items. I don't want it to scroll so I'm just setting stuff up to fit on the front page. I will attach a couple of screen shots. What do you think?

  1. Hey Ash—
congrats on getting this far. i think designing your own website has probably got to be one of the hardest things to ask a designer to do. it looks good, though, and definitely captures your personality—which is your main goal, so that's great.
    couple thoughts:
1: i feel like there's a little disconnect between the hand-letting and the digital type. is it because one is scanned and still has pencil imperfections in it? would it look better if it was digitalized in illustrator? or is it because you're using a italic face and it's slightly too close to hand lettering? would it look better if it was more distant—like a sans serif or something?
    2. I think that your nav items feel a bit big and a could use a little more refinement—both in size, leading, design, etc… I think the screenshot of your first page looks really nice (the work is, of course, beautiful) and i like the layout, generally, but i think the nav items could be pushed a little further.
    keep us posted!
